A Short History of Peacock & Murphy Opticians...
The roots of Peacock & Murphy Opticians go back to 1965 when John Peacock (an optometrist) opened a practice in the market town of Ringwood, Hampshire. Initially all eye examinations and dispensing were carried out by Mr Peacock, but it didn't take long for the practice to become a popular and busy establishment. John Peacock was joined by a Dispensing Optician to take care of the dispensing of spectacles, allowing Mr Peacock to conduct eye examinations on a more regular basis.
In 1968 a second part-time practice was opened in Verwood, Dorset with examinations and spectacle dispensing being carried out at both practices. It soon became clear that Verwood needed a full-time Optometric practice and so the Ringwood site was closed in 1980 and Verwood became a full time practice at the current site just a few yards away from the original in Vicarage Road.
Mr Peacock was joined in 1982 by Brendan Murphy a qualified Dispensing Optician who proceeded to specialise in Contact Lenses, gaining his Contact Lens Honours in 1995. In the meantime they had been joined by Stephen Peacock in 1987, also a qualified Dispensing Optician. Tara Ellis-Bowles joined the team initially as a part-time receptionist in 1991. She proceeded to train as an Optical Technician and then went on to train and qualify as a Dispensing Optician.
The practice has gone through several changes in appearance both inside and out and is now a thoroughly modern practice with two examination rooms, a third room housing our digital retinal camera, advanced visual field analyser, and associated equipment, and a large dispensing area where you can choose from hundreds of the latest frames, and a workshop with extensive state-of-the-art glazing facilities.
